For reasons which are not known still today, the panel broke
at the level of the higher net of the stamps of the last line. This line is called "Grande Cassure" (large
break). The line of framing of the stamps are duplicated, then deviate one from the other more and more and break
in multiple points. About March 1872, a repair was undertaken in order to attach the two pieces of the panel. The higher part
of the most damaged stamps was carried out at the same time. The two stamps concerned are the 145A2 and the 146A2. But this repair did not resist a long time and 146A2 stamps it completely repaired is excessively rare
(some known specimens). The panel was not thus long in worsening again and a few months later, it been necessary to carry out a new
repair. In order not to put all the panel at the rebus, it was decided to change the last line by a new formed band of
10 new stereotypes which gave stamps having an aspect completely different from the stamps of origin. These new stereotypes
are called "remplaçants" (substitutes). The first date known for the "remplaçants" is with the whole beginning of May 1873. But this second repair
will not hold a long time and the "substitutes" are very rare. At the same time as this repair was
carried out, the higher band (131A2 with 140A2) was restored in its lower part. These stamps are thus easily locatable
and are called "Epoque des remplaçants" (time of the substitutes). They also are rare.
